While looking for Sperm Whales and just one minute after seeing a Bulwer´s Petrel, this Wilson´s came to make us a visit.

Parasitic Skua – Stercorarius parasiticus



Rare/Vagrant . All the Skuas are sighted ocasionally around the islands, this one was sighted 4/5 miles off Lajes do Pico.

By far the most common marine bird in The Azores, it can be sighted in a daily basis around the islands.

Roseate Tern – Sterna dougallii



Altough it´s a Common/Breeding bird around The Azores, is still one of the rarest birds in Europe.
This one is particular is ringed and i´m trying to get some more information.
Sighted at Lajes harbour.

Eurasian Spoonbill – Platalea leucorodia


The last from a group of three that stayed around from September 08 to March 09 in the pond area at Lajes do Pico.
One was found dead (cause unknown).
